Acne Is Not Caused by Dirty Skin

June is Acne Awareness Month, and w are starting by clearing up one of the biggest myths we hear every day:

Acne is not necessarily caused by dirty skin.

This misconception leads many people to over-cleanse, scrub aggressively, or use harsh products in an attempt to “fix” their breakouts. Unfortunately, this often does more harm than good.

Acne is actually a complex inflammatory skin condition. It develops when multiple factors come together:

• Your skin produces excess oil (sebum)
• Dead skin cells clog your pores
• Bacteria (specifically Cutibacterium acnes) builds up
• Inflammation occurs within the skin
• Hormones trigger or worsen the process

Because of this, even people with very consistent skincare routines can still struggle with acne.

Over-washing your face or using strong, drying products can strip your skin barrier. When that happens, your skin may respond by producing even more oil—leading to more clogged pores and more breakouts.

Healthy skin is not about being “perfectly clean.” It’s about maintaining balance.

A gentle cleanser, appropriate treatments, and a consistent routine will always be more effective than harsh scrubbing.

This Acne Awareness Month, we are here to help you separate myths from facts. You will be able to approach acne treatment with understanding, not frustration.
